Masian Beach and Masian Mud Flat, two different charms in one place
Masian Beach is known for its long 3 km shoreline.
With its long sandy beach and pine trees, the area is known as “Myeongsasimni,” the fourth of the Eight Scenic Views of Yongyu.
Many islands, including Jamjindo, Muuido, and Silmido, lie near the beach, making the surrounding scenery easy to take in during a walk along the shore.
The beach was called “Masian,” an old word for horse saddle, as its shape was said to resemble one. However, its official name is Masiran.
At high tide, the area becomes a sandy beach. At low tide, a vast mud flat spreads out before visitors,
bringing together two different appeals in one place with swimming and mud flat activities.
The mud flat at Masian Beach is especially known for its wide open expanse, stretching so far that the end can hardly be seen.
The fertile ground and well-formed mud flat ecosystem also provide a habitat for many marine creatures.
Visitors should check tide times in advance, as Masian Mud Flat can only be accessed at low tide.
At the Masian Mud Flat Experiential Center, visitors can rent equipment and try clam digging. Along with clams such as surf clams, Manila clams, and sea snails, visitors may also catch webfoot octopus and long arm octopus.
Other activities include bare-handed fishing called Eojeon Imtong and a mud flat wagon ride across the mudflats.
A Cup of Coffee Overlooking Masian Beach
Large cafes have begun opening one by one along Masian Beach, creating a cafe street by the shore.
Each cafe draws visitors with its own interior style, delicious drinks, and bakery menu.
Cities may be filled with countless cafes, but cafes here are especially popular for their spacious settings and sweeping views of the sea and nearby islands.
Many cafes have also created scenic seats facing the sea, making them even more popular among visitors.
Outdoor seating areas often include photo spots where visitors can take pictures with the sea as the background.
Some cafes have wide outdoor terraces, while others have rooftop spaces.
With unique cafes along Masian Beach, visitors can select a place based on the menu, view, and personal preference.
Masian Beach is also known for its beautiful sunset views. Around sunset, a cafe with a good view makes a perfect place to take in the evening glow over a cup of coffee."
