"Built in 1890, this traditional Korean house shows the characteristics of a middle-class rural home from the central coastal region.
Located on an island in the West Sea, the house is a typical middle-class residence with a central structural beam. The house consists of two buildings, the gate quarters and the main quarters, arranged in an L-shaped layout. Together, they create an open square courtyard plan with one side left disconnected.
The main quarters have a central wooden hall, with the main room and the opposite room placed on both sides. In the gate quarters, the men’s room is positioned on the east side and the storage room on the west side.
A narrow wooden veranda runs in front of the rooms. The floor plan is typical of central region housing and is commonly found in Gyeonggi and Chungcheong.
The upper section above the central beam over the gate is finished with lime plaster, with an octagonal lattice window set in the middle. This detail gives the house a distinctive character."
