"This ordinance applies to heritage from all periods, from premodern heritage to modern, contemporary, and future heritage,
as long as the heritage reflects local characteristics and is recognized for historical, academic, or artistic value.
General Du Gyeong-seung (?–1197), whose tomb was designated Local Heritage No. 1, was a military official during the reign of King Myeongjong of Goryeo.
He served as Munha Sijung (chief state councilor) and Jungseoryeong (chief official of the Secretariat), and suppressed the rebellions led by Kim Bo-dang and Jo Wi-chong.
He made especially important contributions in defending against Jurchen invasions and was granted the title of Samhan Hubyeoksang Gongsin (Meritorious Subject of the Three Han).
During Choe Chung-heon’s rule, he remained loyal to the king and was later exiled to Yeongjongdo Island (formerly Jayeondo), where he spent the rest of his life.
The tomb has been preserved by his descendants for more than 800 years.
Genealogical records of the Dureung Du clan, published in 1898 and 1938, include the tomb’s location and illustrations.
For this reason, the site is considered a valuable heritage site for understanding the history and period setting of Yeongjongdo Island during the Goryeo dynasty."
