"The stele was cast in brass to honor the contributions of Yang Ju-seong, who served as Yeongjong Cheomjeoljesa (military commander of Yeongjong).
In 1875 (12th year of King Gojong’s reign), the Japanese warship Unyo bombarded and captured Yeongjongjin.
In August of the same year, the royal court upgraded Incheon-bu to a defense command and appointed Yang Ju-seong, then Jehak of Hongmungwan, as Yeongjong Cheomjeoljesa.
After taking office, Yang completed the new Yeongjong Defense Command, raised awareness of the importance of national defense, and focused on strengthening military readiness.
Residents also remembered his careful concern for local life and his benevolent governance. To honor his achievements, they gathered brass bowls and used them to build the stele."
