"The Sammokdo Prehistoric Site contains the largest group of Neolithic dwellings found on the islands of the West Sea, excluding the Amsa-dong site in the central western inland region. Seventeen dwellings were identified here. Moving beyond earlier research focused on shell mounds,
the site helped advance studies of livelihoods and residential patterns in island settlements.
The findings also raised questions about the earlier view that all sites along the West Coast were formed through visits or short stays by inland communities seeking resources.
Artifacts and facilities found inside the dwellings are expected to open new possibilities for research on Neolithic culture in the central West Sea region. The site includes 17 pit dwellings from the Neolithic period, one pit, one stone-mound feature, and one underfloor-heating facility from the Joseon dynasty."
